Andrea Sottil felt there were lots of positives to take away from the Sampdoria game

“I'm happy with the result,” he began. "We wanted to show consistency in our performances, our approach and our mentality. We knew this would be a tricky match and it was no foregone conclusion but we got off to a good start then managed our lead well. It's a sign of our growth and consistency. Well done to the lads.”

Sottil was also asked about a recent statistic which shows that Udinese are the European team that get the most players into the box.

“Attacking with lots of players has always been one of our qualities – putting balls into the box and getting our midfielders forward. It's nice to know the stats are on our side.

“I'm just sorry we've lost so many players. It would be nice – for the players themselves – if we could finish the season all together.

“[Florian] Thauvin came in and did a good job. The same goes for [Adam] Masina and Festy [Ebosele], who is getting better and better. They've all shown that we want to finish the season on high.

"Today we needed to play at our tempo and not Sampdoria's, holding a high line and trying to impose our game. The lads did that well. We must maintain this winning mentality and keep training hard. We can improve our ball possession but it will take time to improve that while keeping our basic structure.”
