Lazar Samardzic shared his thoughts on the new season, the squad’s preparations and their upcoming match against Bayer Leverskusen as he spoke to Udinese TV from the club’s training camp in Lienz.

He first reflected on his recent call-up to the Germany U21 side. “I feel really good after the issues I’ve had. It meant a lot to play with the U21s and get a goal on my debut. It was fantastic.”

Turning to his club career, he is hopeful about what he can do in the coming season. “I hope to carve out more space for myself this year at Udinese. There’s a lot of competition in the midfield but I train hard every day. I also need to score more goals than the two I got last year. I want to get as many as possible. I feel like I’m improving in every respect in my second year here, but I know I need to develop the physical and mental side of my game even more, which is something I’m working on a lot.

“Lots of young players have arrived this year, all with a lot of talent, who can boost the side. I feel good working with Sottil as a coach. He always wants the team to play football.”

The youngster was also feeling positive as he looked ahead to his side’s upcoming fixture and further into the future. “I’m happy about playing against Bayer. They are a top side, with lots of great players. Let’s see what happens. In terms of my future, I dream of playing in the senior national team.”
