Cioffi: “We’ll get out of this”

“I have no comment on the Covid protocol,” was how Gabriele Cioffi began his post-match press conference after the 2-0 loss away to Juventus. “Everyone has their own opinion. It’s some people’s job to choose and decide. Credit to the coaching staff and the club structures. I was almost a new type of coach, with video calls and remote sessions on treadmills. Having said that, I did like what I saw tonight. I believe in what we’re doing and that we can do it if we’re not forced to send out a make-shift team.

“If we train properly, we’ll get out of this. I believe in what we’re doing and I can see the players are responding every day. I didn’t like our passive approach in the first 15 or 20 minutes, but Udinese then showed bravery as a team and went toe-to-toe with them. The result shows that Juventus won 2-0 tonight, but if we train and play as we know we can, we won’t be taken lightly.”

As for the transfer market, the boss said, “I don’t want to open up that can of worms. I’ve coached for too few games to be able to tell the club what’s needed. I’ve had meetings with the club, of course, but the task for my staff and me is to win games. The players we’re given to coach isn’t a priority.”
