At the end of the clash with Sampdoria on Sunday afternoon, Udinese boss Luca Gotti gave his view of the proceedings in an interview with Udinese TV:

“We can now say that it was enjoyable after we left the pitch undefeated and the players tried everything to ensure we didn’t lose.

“Even in stoppage time, we weren’t just thinking about defending, but we tried to hurt our opponents whenever we had the chance.

“The game was there for the taking. It’s a shame that [Nacho] Pussetto wasn’t available today. With his attributes, I think we would’ve made it very hard for Sampdoria given their approach.

“The key incident that I think the match hinged on was their equaliser to make it 2-2 at the start of the second half. We really gave it away

“I must say I enjoyed what I saw from the players, but I was less keen on the many mistakes on the pitch.

“I don’t know what happened to [Gerard] Deulofeu. An injury that he suffered from last year has come back and it gave him a scare. We tried to see if he could run it off, but he couldn’t.

“As for [Jean-Victor] Makengo, it took him a few minutes to get into the game and he then went from strength to strength. I only took him off to change our tactical set-up, but I’m very pleased with his performance.

“We know that our path as a club depends on the development of these young players and in this regard, every game is a learning curve.”
