Luca Gotti spoke to Udinese TV after his charges came out on top over Sassuolo:

“Despite the fact we got off to a good start, the goal we conceded through what happened with Marco Silvestri really brought us crashing down. We gave Sassuolo too much space; we shouldn’t have allowed that to happen. We started making schoolboy errors and the fatigue from our training camp was also weighing on us.

“After making it 2-2 we went into the half time break level and we were able to set ourselves out for the second half in the way in which we intended; we were all over them and we had many chances to increase our lead.

“As for the formation, if we play with a 3-5-2 we often end up defending as a back four anyway. My idea today was to give players like Gerard Deulofeu a chance to play in his preferred role in order to get the most out of them.

Regarding Nehuen Perez, he hadn’t played a single minute before today’s game. I’m a big fan of the lad and I’ve not changed my opinion on him since he came in. In training he puts in the same amount of effort as if he were a regular starter. Lazar Samardzic has shown the same attitude during the week and I think both of them will do well.

“We head into the international break with a victory behind us which should mean we’re able to get the best out of the team. We need to channel the team’s talents into our performances just as we’ve done so in the second half today.”
