Luca Gotti sat down with journalists on Saturday to discuss his side's visit to Spezia. Here's what he had to say.

How has the team been training during the international break?
“The players have been working really well. They don't seem to be taking things lightly, as can happen sometimes in situations like this.”

Spezia made a lot of changes in the summer, brining in a new coach and new players. What sort of game are you expecting?
“I expect Spezia will play very aggressively. They'll be galvanised by the fact they finally have fans back at the stadium. We know what a fiery atmosphere it can be.”

Your first match in the Udinese dugout was against Thiago Motta on 4 November 2019. On that occasion he put out a a very attacking Genoa team and paid for it. Do you expect Spezia to play a similar way?
“I do, yes, because regardless of the formation, which might change depending on the players available, Thiago Motta has always stuck by his principles and tried to include as many skilful players as possible. His teams are always attack-minded.”

How are the players who have just returned from international duty? Will Nahuel Molina be available for selection?
“Molina landed back in Italy at 3 am this morning only because the club organised a charter flight for him. Today was a recovery day for him. He didn't train with us and he was very tired but I hope that he'll be available for tomorrow. Larsen is continuing to do really well for Denmark. It's a real shame about the injury to Udogie, which has turned out to be a bit more serious than we first thought. He's going to miss two or three weeks at a time when we have lots of matches. It's a pity because he was in great physical and mental shape.”

What's your first impression of Brandon Soppy?
“It's the same for Soppy as it is for [Nehuen] Perez, [Lazar] Samardzic, [Isaac] Success and Beto: they've all come in from different leagues and they're young, some of them very young, with little or no experience in Serie A. But they all have something to offer our team. It's up to me to understand when the best time to ease them in is, without placing too much responsibility on them. Praise can come quickly but when players get bigged up the fall can be worse.”
