Marino: "We've strengthened in all areas"

Our technical director reflects on Udinese's summer transfer business at Friday's unveiling of new signings Success and Perez

Udinese technical director introduced Isaac Success and Nehuen Perez at their official unveiling on Friday, before offering his thoughts on the club's summer transfer deals in general.

“Success is a powerful striker who will have the chance to demonstrate the talent he has only partially demonstrated thus far in his career. He's a modern forward with great physical and technical ability who can operate both as a centre forward and out wide. I think he's perfectly suited to [Luca] Gotti's playing style, which involves very quick transitions – something Isaac has shown himself to be very good at. We'd been trying to bring him to Udine from Watford for two years.”

“Perez is a young player who plays with confidence and experience that are beyond his years. What I find impressive is his ability to impose himself both defensively and going forward. He has a wonderful right foot capable of hitting pinpoint long passes to team-mates that others can't even see. He joins the group of Argentines already in our squad. He came up through the academy at Argentinos Juniors, the club which introduced Diego Maradona to the world. They know how to spot talented footballers so the fact he comes from there – and Atletico Madrid of course – is a guarantee. Nehuen has a look about him that suggests he'll go a long way in the game. I'm sure he'll do well whatever position he's played in.

“It was a long and difficult transfer window. We succeeded in our goal of freshening up our squad with promising young players who may well go on to attract the interest of big clubs. I'm glad Udinese have reverted to the old philosophy of leveraging our scouting network. I'm certain that all our new signings will play their part in this club's present and build great futures for themselves. We've strengthened in all areas and we'll make further additions in January if needed.

“There's real optimism in the air and we want to convey that to the fans, who are finally able to come to the stadium again. Without spectators, our home advantage at Dacia Arena diminished but we immediately saw the effect it can have with the fans. I'm sure they and the players will feed off each other's energy.”
