Udinese technical director Pierpaolo Marino spoke to DAZN ahead of the scheduled kick-off for Tuesday's match between Udinese and Salernitana.

“The Lega decided – quite rightly, I believe – not to postpone the game and we are here in accordance with the regulations. I think it was the right decision because it's up to the Lega to ensure the correct running of the league. You can't postpone a game because one player is missing. Last year we had to play Lazio at a time when seven players and the coach were out with Covid. We went to Rome with a weakened team and ended up winning. The Lega did what was necessary and now we'll see what happens.

“In any case, there is a difference because this match and what the circumstances ahead of the match between Juventus and Napoli: Salernitana should have taken a charter flight instead of a scheduled flight as the Serie A Covid protocol specifies that all teams must travel on private flights.

“The local health authority only ordered Salernitana not to travel on scheduled flights, so the match could have gone ahead. Salernitana have my sympathy but we offered them the chance to have further swabs done at our trusted laboratory. We did everything we could to ensure the game could be played.

“We'll respect whatever the Lega decides. Besides anything else, we're in good form at the moment and we'd have preferred to play. If the Lega had intervened every Sunday, we might have ended up having to halt the season and that's in nobody's interests.”
