Marco Silvestri has called on his Udinese team-mates to learn from their 4-0 home defeat by Napoli on Monday night.

“We don’t have time to think too much about this game, but we definitely need to learn from it and realise that we still need to work hard if we’re going to do well in what is going to be a very tough league,” he said, speaking after the game. “The fact that the fans kept supporting us until the end is really important for us and I think they could see we were up against a very good side tonight.”

Silvestri couldn’t hide his disappointment at conceding four goals at Dacia Arena on Monday night – but the summer signing still produced a number of saves to keep the scoreline down.

“I was able to make a few saves, but it’s still four goals and that hurts because it’s a lot,” he said. “We need to look to the future now and focus on our next game.”

The defeat by Luciano Spalletti’s high-flying Napoli side was Udinese’s first of the campaign following an impressive start to the season by Luca Gotti’s men.

“We’ve earned our seven points from some tricky games,” said Silvestri. “We need to go again on Thursday with the awareness that we need to improve, even though we’ve already shown some good things. Napoli showed us tonight that if you don’t stay switched on for the whole game, these teams are going to make life hard for you. We need to improve in our coming games but there’s no reason for us to show fear.”
