The match between Udinese and Bologna at the Dacia Arena, game number 35 of the Serie A season, ended 1-1.
The result is the 21st draw between the two team, who have faced off 72 times in Italy's top flight. It is also the third consecutive draw after the 2-2 in January and the 1-1 on 22 February 2020.
Despite the bittersweet end to the game, after the penalty kick awarded to the opponents with fewer than 10 minutes to play, Udinese continue a run of positive results against the Rossoblù. The last defeat was back on 30 September 2018, when Bologna managed to win 2-1.
From then on, Udinese racked up three straight wins, when the 4-0 Coppa Italia win in 2019 is also included, followed by three draws.
Despite relative balance in terms of ball possession (48%-52%), passing accuracy (82%-85%, 344-385 successful passes) and attacks in central areas of the pitch (13-13), the visitors managed to impose themselves in terms of shots attempted (16-9) as well as chances created (2-7).
On the other hand, even though Siniša Mihajlović's side had the best shooting percentage in the league (50.8%), Gotti's men hit the target once more than their opponents (5-4).
Udinese opened the scoring through Rodrigo De Paul and his contribution was no surprise. The beautiful goal from the Argentine was his ninth of this league season.
Incidentally, De Paul is one of only three midfielders in this year's Serie A to have registered at least eight goals and eight assists, alongside Sergej Milinković-Savić (Lazio) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Roma).
In terms of scoring and contributing to goals (43%), the captain is now Udinese’s top scorer and assist leader. He has equalled his goal-scoring record dating back to the 2018/2019 season with three games still to play.
However, in terms of quality, his team-mates were no less impressive. Pereyra, Walace and Arslan recorded passing accuracies of 96% (25 out of 26 + 2 key passes), 91% (42 out of 46) and 89% (34 out of 38).
Udinese are now on 40 points, with their target in sight.
