On Saturday, during the Serie A match between Udinese and Bologna, children with diabetes that are treated by the Endocrinology and Diabetology team of the Udine Children’s Hospital will visit Bluenergy Stadium. The initiative was first developed thanks to the mediation of paediatrician Francesca Franco and was organised in collaboration with the Associazione Friulana Famiglie Diabetici di Udine, which for forty years has been supporting children with diabetes and their families during the diagnosis period and in everyday life, and with Sweet Team ANIAD (Associazione Nazionale Italiana Atleti con Diabete) FVG, which was created with the goal of inspiring, informing and supporting the many people with diabetes in Friuli Venezia Giulia, including through sports activities.
It will be an important opportunity to raise awareness on diabetes that will actively involve the young patients and their families. The children will also walk onto the pitch with the Udinese and Bologna players at the start of the game.
In Friuli Venezia Giulia, there are over 350 children and young boys and girls with type 1 diabetes, and type 2 diabetes is also on the rise among young children. This initiative is therefore an opportunity to highlight the importance of collective efforts to promote health and well-being for all, with a special focus on the children and families who have to manage diabetes every day.
