Our captain Roberto Pereyra has been named Udinese’s player of the year for 2022.

The award comes from the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) as part of the Gran Gala del Calcio, which included a vote from the union of the Italian sports media.

Speaking to TV 12, El Tucu commented on winning the award and the team’s current run of form.

“I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me. I’m thrilled and am so deeply grateful. I’m happy to be back among the goals, but I would’ve been much happier if the team had won. We know we’re going through a difficult period, but we know that wins will come soon. That’s what we’re working towards and I’m feeling good. I’ll be in Bergamo. It’ll be an important game for us. We want the win along with the fans.”

“Roberto Pereyra deserves this accolade,” explained the AIC’s general director Gianni Grazioli. “He had an incredible year. He has so much quality, as shown by the career that he’s had. It’s a major award that also involves the press, who’ve bestowed it upon him as a leader in this Udinese side that achieved so much at the start of the season. Only the top teams are ahead of them in the league and Udinese have also kept some great sides at bay in a particularly difficult championship.”
