Once again this year, Udinese Calcio played a leading role at Coliseum Summit Europe, held at Emirates Stadium in London. The event, focused on the challenges clubs face in the management of sports arenas and the innovations they bring forward, featured contributions from clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool and Olympique Marseille alongside industry experts like Daniele Tagliabue, Head of Venue Technology Services & Results for Milano-Cortina 2026, and Andreas Schaer, who oversaw the organisation of Euro 2024 across its ten host stadiums.
Representing Udinese Calcio was communications manager Jacopo Romeo, who presented Bluenergy Stadium as a model of innovation, multifunctionality and sustainability. A club-owned stadium, selected to host the upcoming UEFA Super Cup, it stands as a reference point not only for the local community and business sector, but also for the organisation of events beyond football. At Coliseum Summit Europe, Udinese shared its experience in pursuing social, economic and environmental sustainability, applying these principles both to Bluenergy Stadium and across other areas of the Udinese world.
Romeo highlighted how Bluenergy Stadium serves as an innovative benchmark for sustainable sports infrastructure, in line with Udinese’s DNA, with the ambitious goal of becoming Italy’s first carbon-free stadium. This vision will be reinforced by the soon-to-be-inaugurated solar park, which will make the venue energy self-sufficient on matchdays. Environmental sustainability is further pursued through low-impact food menus, the use of compostable materials, waste reduction and careful waste sorting. Social sustainability is also a key focus, with initiatives such as the club’s Summer Camps for young fans incorporating educational activities on recycling and inclusion.
These efforts have led to Udinese Calcio securing a place on the ECA Sustainability Committee (2024-27) and receiving an invitation to COP 29 alongside a select few clubs and being recognised as the most sustainable club in Italy and the fourth most sustainable in Europe. A global commitment that starts with local impact, with Bluenergy Stadium acting as an innovation incubator and a community hub, not just when the team take to the pitch.
