Udine, 11 August 2022 – Another historic moment for Udinese approaches, as Saturday 13 August sees the club enter its 50th season in Serie A. It’s a big milestone for the second oldest club in Italy, confirming its place as a great exemplar of Italian and world football, owing to its ties with tradition, its longevity and consistency. In fact, there are only 12 clubs that can boast a greater number of seasons in the top tier of Italian football over the course of their history.

In a fitting twist of fate, Udinese travel to San Siro for the opening match of their 50th Serie A campaign, which is where on 10 September 1950, under coach Guido Testolina, they had their first taste of the league against AC Milan. For this reason, Saturday’s match against the current champions (kick-off at 18:00 CEST) will see the Udinese players don their new Macron 2022/23 home kit, complete with an additional celebratory patch above the club logo featuring the number 50 to mark the occasion. The commemorative shirts with the patch used during the game will then go on sale at store.udinese.it.

It's not the only important milestone for the club either, as in another record, the side begins its 28th consecutive season in Serie A. Furthermore, under the Pozzo family’s ownership, it is Udinese’s 32nd year in the top flight, having also successfully qualified 11 times for European competitions.

General manager Franco Collavino shared the significance of the occasion for the side. “Tradition and innovation are Udinese’s secret ingredients. Reaching this landmark of 50 years is no mean feat and it shows how our club is a great example of sound, solid management which has allowed us to compete at the top level of Italian football for 28 years in a row. Udinese are a historic club, always staying one step ahead, as was the case with the construction of Dacia Arena and our international scouting practices, which have brought some great talents to Udine who have gone on to become stars. Our aim, therefore, is to continue to achieve ambitious goals and make our fans proud – as they are a fundamental and integral part of our history. We have the opportunity to celebrate all this in a rematch at the iconic San Siro, just like 72 years ago.”
