On 12 March 1978 Udinese beat Triestina 6-0 to record our all-time biggest victory over our local rivals and one of our biggest against any team.
The 1977/78 Serie C Group A match between unbeaten league leaders Udinese and mid-table Triestina turned out to be a one-sided affair at the Stadio Friuli, as goals by Carlo De Bernardi (2) Claudio Pellegrini (2), Nerio Ulivieri and Pasquale Fanesi saw Massimo Giacomini's team continue their promotion charge.
It was Udinese's fourth consecutive success in a nine-match winning streak, which remains a club record to this day.
They ended the campaign top of the pile, with just two defeats all season and thus returned to Serie B after a 14-year hiatus.
The following year, Giacomini steered Udinese into Serie A with back-to-back promotions.
Matches with Triestina became less frequent after this historic game, with only a few Serie B and Coppa Italia meetings in the '80s and early '90s. The clubs have not met in a competitive fixture since 1991.
