Nicolo Bertola was this week's guest in the Udinese Tonight studio, the Monday after the team's 2-2 draw at Atalanta.

The young defender, who is currently sidelined with an injury, began by reflecting on the match.

“It would have been nicer to win but we played well so we should be happy. The team has quality. We haven't always been able to show it and that inconsistency has been our Achilles' heel. Against Atalanta we showed what we're capable of.”

As for his recovery: “I'm getting there. I hope to return for the Genoa game.”

The 22-year then discussed his own season, having joined the club from Spezia in the summer.

“My initial aim was to play, but then I started playing well. I didn't expect to do so well. I struggled a little at the start because there's a big difference between Serie A and Serie B but then I got into it. Maintaining your focus is crucial as things happen in a split second. This season I've learnt to play the ball more quickly. In Serie B you have more time on the ball to think. In Serie A you have to see what you can do before you receive it.”

In the meantime, Nicolo is furthering his development with the aid of his more experienced team-mates. “[Christian] Kabasele is the one who talks to me the most – he's a real captain. He gives lots of advice and he's important for us on and off the pitch. I also try to pick things up from [Oumar] Solet.”
