Udinese’s resolute performance in the 2-2 stalemate away to Bologna showed Gabriele Cioffi that the team has the right attitude, as he explained in a post-match interview.

“Coming to Bologna for our third game in eight days was tough for a team that’s not used to that. The challenge isn’t over yet,” added the boss, in reference to the meeting with Fiorentina on Wednesday.

Cioffi was pleased with what he saw on the pitch from his players. “We were ruthless and focused. We wanted to get points on the board. We played on the front foot and with real impetus. We have fast players who get us moving on the pitch.”

Those athletic attributes were key to both goals and much more at the Stadio Renato Dell’Ara.

“We had five or six clear-cut goalscoring chances. It’s important to keep your head and remain focused. Then the chances will come.”

Since Cioffi took over the reins, Udinese have scored 29 goals in 17 games, but the coach was quick to give the players credit for the improved goal statistics.

“It’s down to the players’ bravery. It’s easy to say you’re going to play with character, but the players have had the mental capacity to be brave on a practical level. This team has the ability and is showing that on the pitch.

“Bologna changed their formation today and we were slightly perplexed, but now everything resets as we’re facing Fiorentina in three days’ time.”

As for Isaac Success, who scored and grabbed an assist, Cioffi added, “He’s a player with huge potential. He has to perfect his skills. He must want to hold on to what he’s achieving.”
