Juventus 3-1 Udinese

Zaniolo's equaliser not enough to claim a share of the spoils in Turin

Udinese's three-game unbeaten run came to an end at the hands of Juventus as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at Allianz Stadium, with two penalties – one in the opening minutes and the other in second-half stoppage time – doing most of the damage.

The hosts drew first blood early doors when Saba Goglichidze fouled Dusan Vlahovic in the box and the Serbian striker slotted home the resulting spot kick.

Later in the half, Maduka Okoye did brilliantly to keep out Filip Kostic's powerful strike with one hand, then moments later he managed to get a foot in the way to deny Vlahovic a second.

Kosta Runjaic's side upped the intensity as the first period drew to a close and scored an equaliser just before the break courtesy of Nicolo Zaniolo's fine finish through a crowded box.

Soon after the restart Goglichidze was presented with two opportunities to score from set-pieces: the first, a header, was saved by Michele Di Gregorio, while his second attempt flew over the bar.

Juventus cranked up the pressure and fashioned a number of chances, with Okoye keeping the scoreline intact. However, the goalkeeper could do nothing when Federico Gatti rose to head home his team's second of the game midway through the half.

Udinese set about looking for another equaliser and Vakoun Bayo very nearly found one when he connected with a corner, but he sent his header just the wrong side of the post.

As the game entered the final minutes, the hosts were awarded another penalty for a touch on Kenan Yildiz by Goglichidze and the Turkish star put the result beyond doubt from 12 yards.

Udinese remain on 12 points after nine games, in ninth place, and will now turn their attentions to Saturday's clash with Atalanta at Bluenergy Stadium.
