Following Udinese’s 0-0 away draw against Parma technical director Gian Luca Nani spoke to the media:
“This isn’t the time for controversy, as we’re coming off the back of six consecutive defeats. However, it certainly felt like there was a clear penalty in the incident involving [Keinan] Davis, and the challenge on [Jurgen] Ekkelenkamp also looked like a penalty. It would be helpful to have some clarity. I don’t understand why these situations were reviewed by VAR, yet no spot-kick was awarded.
“In the last matchday a penalty was given for a challenge similar to the one on Davis, yet today it wasn't. On the other hand, we were fortunate regarding the incident with [Nicolo] Zaniolo. He could’ve been sent off, but the referee exercised common sense.
“Things are much simpler when there is clarity and a consistent standard applied to everyone across every matchday. Even an expert like [Luca] Marelli has stated that the incident involving Davis should’ve been a penalty.
“In every one of these six defeats - and again today in Parma – we’ve consistently delivered good performances, with the exception of the match against Lecce. We should’ve beaten Torino and Cagliari, we were leading against Lazio until the final 20 minutes, and we scored three goals at San Siro. We lost due to individual errors and lapses in concentration. When that happens, you can’t really blame the coach, though obviously you can’t keep losing indefinitely.
“The work that’s put in during the week is what matters, and the results are simply a consequence of that. We’re not the team that loses six games in a row, and today - to some extent - we proved that.”
