After the match against Inter at San Siro, which ended in a 5-3 defeat for the Zebrette, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye and coach Kosta Runjaic answered questions from journalists in the press room.
Okoye: “It’s always tough playing Inter at San Siro. They play a very attack-minded game. They just never let up, even after scoring three or four goals. We had our chances too, but they’re just too good.”
Runjaic: “You can't really talk about specific strategies against Inter, as they’re a team that had 65% possession at the Bernabeu and scored three goals against Napoli in a single half. Our strategy was simply to show our spirit and try to keep the ball as much as possible. We started well, but then we let in some easy goals, losing duels we shouldn't have lost. They capitalised on every mistake we made. That shows just how good they are – they’re the best team in Serie A and have strengthened their squad even further this season.
“We struggled to cope with their pressure. We were missing several players, and perhaps things would’ve gone differently had they been available, especially after we took the lead. We have to accept this defeat. Playing Inter is always difficult, and if you aren't 100% focused - and don't get the rub of the green – defeat is inevitable. The positive takeaway from this game is the three goals we scored. I'm sure [Cristian] Chivu will also be talking about the goals conceded in his press conference. We need to reflect on the goals we let in and focus on our upcoming match against Cagliari.”
