The friendly match held at the Stadio Bottecchia against Pordenone – presenting partner Banca 360 FVG – ended with a win for coach Kosta Runjaic’s men. The game was also an opportunity for players who had seen less game time than the rest of the squad as well as two players from the U20 team.
Udinese immediately started the match on the attack. Vakoun Bayo got the first chance of the game: after receiving an assist, he pulled the trigger but sent his effort over the bar. Thomas Kristensen also made an attempt just a few minutes later, but his effort from the edge of the box also went high.
Bayo then got another chance when he was served by Oier Zarraga on the near post, but his effort just barely missed the target. A few minutes later, another ball was put into the box and reached Idrissa Gueye, whose volley finish, however, was saved by Pordenone’s goalkeeper Andrea Mason.
Udinese’s opponents tried to fight back on the counter, and on one of these occasions Alberto Filippini received a low cross from the left, but his shot missed the goal defended by Daniele Padelli.
In the second half too, Udinese were the ones who dictated the tempo, but Pordenone remained compact and careful. Kingsley Ehizibue and then Arthur Atta each took a shot from outside the box but were unsuccessful. Then the Frenchman provided a low cross that nearly ended in an own goal by Valentino Maurutto, who was however saved by the crossbar. Halfway through the second half, Jurgen Ekkelenkamp provided a cross-shot on the far post, which Meneghetti saved, but Pordenone once again risked scoring an own goal following the square ball from Bayo, but they stopped their opponents from scoring at the last second.
After half an hour, Juan Arizala worried the opponent’s goalkeeper with a left-footed shot from outside the box. On the rebound, Bayo attempted to poke it home but failed to do so. Udinese’s lead came late on through Jakub Piotrowski, who beat Marco Meneghetti with a drilled diagonal shot. Shortly after, Ekkelenkamp had a chance to double the lead – the final one of the match – but the opposing goalkeeper made the save.
