Silvestri: "Happier when my saves help us win"

Our keeper comments on another clean sheet against Empoli

Marco Silvestri couldn't be anything but happy after playing his part in Udinese's 1-0 triumph over Empoli. He didn't score the winner – that honour went to Rodrigo Becao – but he pulled off a save as good as a goal to keep out Martin Satriano's header.

“I'm delighted with the win today and I'm much happier when my saves help us get a result like today or against Atalanta,” our No.1 began. “Today it was even better because we won. Conceding a goal at that point would have been a massive blow after the chances we'd had.

“We didn't fall behind today so we went into the second half without the extra pressure. We got the goal then fought tooth and nail to hold onto the result.

“As I said the other day, the boss's outburst was what we needed. You can see the difference in mentality. In the last two games we've given little away and conceded no goals. We've improved a lot in the areas the boss asked us to and today we've come away with a great result.

“We have top-class defenders and generally speaking we defend well as a team. At one point today, Beto was tracking back in [Destiny] Udogie's wing-back slot – that just shows you the team spirit and mindset we have here.

“It feels good to win. Now we must keep performing like this.”
