Sunday’s league match saw Udinese draw with Lazio in the Italian capital, leaving the two sides neck and neck on points in Serie A. Coach Andrea Sottil was generally pleased with what he saw but sees where his side can improve. “We’re working a lot on our mental strength. This team is at a very high physical level and that must be matched by our mentality.”

He praised his players’ approach to the match. “We played with personality, confidence and looked comfortable. We were relaxed and played good football. I want to praise the lads for that.

“It was real test against a strong side. We put in a great performance and wouldn’t have been undeserving winners had we managed it. We were just a whisker away when we hit the bar and didn’t give them much space in the second half.”

Looking ahead, he still believes he can see more from his team. “We’re working hard to create a winning mentality. We’ve still got things to improve. We created lots of opportunities but couldn’t find the net. Lazio were in the game right to the end.”

Sottil is proud of where his team sit in the league at the moment. “We deserve to be there. During training, the lads are ambitious. They want to stay high up in the league and improve. I see a lot of desire to win.”
