The first edition of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup – a tournament run jointly by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and Udinese Calcio – ended with victory for Udinese!
Kosta Runjaic's side defeated both Nottingham Forest and Barcelona 1-0, thanks to goals by Oumar Solet and Vakoun Bayo.
With the world watching proceedings at a completely packed Bluenergy Stadium, the team lifted the trophy created by Giorgio Celiberti and handed over by Friuli Venezia Giulia president Massimiliano Fedriga in the company of club owner Gianpaolo Pozzo.
Success in this friendly tournament – albeit against two top-level opposition teams – is a timely boost for Udinese as their prepare for their first competitive match of the season, at home to Padova in the Coppa Italia next weekend.
