UDINE – Udinese go away from today's encounter feeling they could've come away with a point after a courageous fightback in the second half.
After a tricky start in which Inter took an early lead through an Ivan Perisic header, Udinese tried to find a foothold in the game and nearly hit back through a decent chance for Nacho Pussetto. However Inter soon doubled their lead through a controversial Lautaro Martinez penalty. The match referee Daniele Chiffi initially saw nothing wrong with Pablo Mari's challenge on Edin Dzeko, but the incident was signalled by the VAR team for further examination. Eventually the spot kick was awarded and despite Marco Silvestri and the post initially keeping out Martinez's effort, the Argentine was able to nod in the rebound.
Gabriele Cioffi's men came out for the second half with more fight and desire, and after a war of attrition on the Nerazzurri's goal finally found a breakthrough in the 72nd minute. Despite maintaining a wave of constant pressure for the rest of the match Udinese were unable to find the equaliser and go home from Sunday's encounter empty handed.
