Gabriele Cioffi praised his players for not letting an early goal alter their game plan against Cagliari, as they stuck to the task and ran out 4-0 winners in Sardinia.

“That's the mentality we should have,” the coach said to Udinese TV after the game. “If our opponents score, it's not the end of the world; if we score, we don't own the world. You win or lose at the final whistle. That's what I'm trying to drum into the lads.

“We'll enjoy this win tonight as it's good for morale but from tomorrow we need to focus on Salernitana.”

Cioffi went on to comment on two of the goalscorers, Jean-Victor Makengo who netted the opener with a minute on the clock, and Gerard Deulofeu, who helped himself to a brilliant brace.

“I hope it's the first of many for Makengo, but the good thing today was we didn't let up after getting the early goal. We maintained a high level for the whole 90 minutes.

“Deulofeu is a top player and he's understood that in football the first thing you need to do is put in the legwork.

“All the players did that today. Now we need to keep it up.”
