Cioffi: “One game at a time”

The boss previews our visit to Cagliari

Gabriele Cioffi has stressed that Udinese must continue to focus on one game at a time as they head into their final two matches of 2021 looking to build on two impressive outings in the last week.

Here's what the coach had to say to Udinese TV the day before Saturday's Serie A fixture at Cagliari.

After an excellent performance against AC Milan and a very comfortable win over Crotone, now you face Cagliari. How's the team looking?

“Milan and Crotone are in the past. We need to keep producing the goods week in, week out. We have to do it again against Cagliari forgetting about what we did against Milan and Crotone.”

Cagliari are in desperate need of points and it's likely to be a very hard-fought match. What's the biggest danger you'll need to deal with?

“Cagliari are a team that should be much higher than they are. [Nahitan] Nandez, [Diego] Godin, [Martin] Caceres, Joao Pedro, Keita [Balde], [Leonardo] Pavoletti are all top-level players who give them very good options. They also have a coach who made history at Reggina and Napoli. We must be determined and focused and try to cause problems for what is a great Cagliari team, even though they're going through a rough spell.”

After Cagliari you'll host Salernitana at Dacia Arena. Could good results in these two games be a sign of what Udinese can aim for in the second half of the season?

“You can never get ahead of yourself in football. I want – and I expect the players – to focus on the here and now. We have to focus on one game at a time.”
