Udinese have completed the signing of goalkeeper Marco Silvestri from Hellas Verona on a three-year deal.

The experienced Silvestri has been one of the best goalkeepers in Serie A over the past two seasons and has signed a contract keeping him with Udinese until 30 June 2024.

Born on 2 March 1991 in Castelnuovo ne’ Monti, in the province of Reggio Emilia, Silvestri came up through the youth ranks at Modena, making his debut for the club in the Coppa Italia in 2010.

He moved to Chievo Verona that summer, playing in the Primavera side before heading out on loan to Reggiana for the 2011/12 season, making 28 starts for the club.

The following season Silvestri moved to Padova in Serie B, making 25 appearances during a fine loan campaign.

Silvestri returned to Chievo in the summer of 2013, but moved on loan to Cagliari in January 2014, appearing three times in Serie A.

A permanent transfer to Leeds United in England followed ahead of the 2014/15 season. It proved to be the turning point in Silvestri’s career, as he made 43 appearances in the Championship in that first season, saving four penalties along the way. In total, Silvestri made 98 appearances during his two seasons at Elland Road.

Silvestri made his return to Verona in the summer of 2017 – but this time he would be representing Hellas. He even made his debut against former side Chievo in the Coppa Italia on 29 November, denying Sergio Pellissier from the spot.

Hellas went down that season, but Silvestri played a key role in the team’s 2018/19 Serie B campaign, saving another three penalties as Hellas bounced straight back via the play-offs.

Since then, Silvestri has been one of the most impressive goalkeepers in Serie A – with his performances rewarded with an Italy call-up in October 2020. In total, Silvestri made 115 appearances for Verona, keeping nine clean sheets in 2019/20 and seven in 2020/21.

Everyone at Udinese would like to wish Silvestri the best of luck here with the Bianconeri.
