Udinese centre-back Samir spoke to Udinese TV in the wake of the 3-1 loss away to Empoli.

“I’m aware that we didn’t produce the sort of performance that we were all hoping for. We scored the first goal, but our intensity then dropped. We can’t have these highs and lows and we have to reach a level of consistency in terms of our mentality and attitude. This isn’t OK. We can’t allow ourselves to have this sort of attitude and we have to take full responsibility.

“We know that things aren’t going well, but we’re the only ones who can get ourselves out of this situation. We have to work hard on the small details because that’s what makes the difference in Serie A.

“It seems like we lose concentration when we score a goal and struggle to maintain the same level, so that’s something we have to work on.

“Now is the time to stand up and be counted because we have to show the personality to tell ourselves clearly that things aren’t going well.

“We’re a strong team, but we have to show that on the pitch and just say it. We represent a big club and we don’t want to get into any difficulties.

“Now we have to wake up because there’s still a long way to go in the league. We spoke to one another in the dressing room and I can say that we’ve woken up.”
