Sunday's match against Fiorentina will be the 98th time Udinese have faced the Viola in Serie A, with previous encounters yielding 24 wins, 28 draws and 45 defeats.
Udinese have won three of their last six league meetings with Fiorentina. Another victory at the weekend would see the Zebrette record a league double against the Tuscan outfit for the first time since 2007/08, after Kosta Runjaic's side won the reverse fixture at the Stadio Franchi 2-1 (on 23 December 2024).
The most recent match in Udine ended 2-0 to the visitors on 24 September 2023 while the last draw between these sides was a 2-2 on 14 January 2024. 2-2 was also the score the last time this fixture was played in Week 38, on 17 June 1951, and it is the most common scoreline in all past meetings.
Udinese have won their final game of the season in five of the last seven seasons. Doing so again this year would mean reaching the milestone of 2,100 points in Serie A.
Runjaic's team could finish the campaign with a record number of different goalscorers. They have had 17 so far this season, one less than the all-time record and two fewer than Inter, the team with the most names on the score sheet this season.
The Nerazzurri are also the only team to have scored more goals from corners than Udinese this term: nine versus eight.
Runjaic's side have only conceded one headed goal and one goal from outside the box all season.
Lorenzo Lucca, who was on target in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina in December, has had a hand in 12 goals in 2024/25 (11 goals, one assist), which is the same total as in 2023/24 but playing five fewer matches. If he finds the net on Sunday, he would equal Kevin Lasagna's 2017/18 tally of 12 – the last time an Italian player managed more than 11.
Florian Thauvin was the other goalscorer in the reverse fixture while Sandi Lovric – who will sit this one out through suspension – grabbed one of the goals in the 2-2 draw on 14 January 2023.
Kingsley Ehizibue and Thomas Kristensen both made their Serie A debuts against Fiorentina: the former in a 1-0 win on 31 August 2022 and the latter in a 2-0 defeat on 24 September 2023.
Viola pair Rolando Mandragora and Pablo Mari both spent spells at Udinese. Mandragora made 71 appearances between 2018 and 2021 while Mari played 15 games in the second half of the 2021/22 campaign.
Pietro Comuzzo also passed through the Centro Sportivo Bruseschi, albeit only briefly: he spent one season in the Udinese academy at the age of 11.
Curiously, the referee for this game is Matteo Marcenaro – the same match official who was in charge for the reverse fixture.
