Recent recruit James Abankwah was interviewed on Udinese Tonight and gave his thoughts on his time so far at the club:

“I was delighted when I found out Udinese were after me; I accepted the offer right away.

“Getting to play in the Irish top flight aged 18 was really important for me. I was playing for St. Patrick’s at an early age which wasn’t easy. I was forced to mature quickly; I’m happy with how I’ve developed.

“I’ve got great memories from my time in Ireland. I featured in the FIA Cup final against Bohemians; it was amazing to play in front of 37,000 fans with my family watching on. Winning that game on penalties was an unforgettable experience.

“As for my time so far at Udinese, it’s gone well although pre-season was a slog. We’re now ready for Serie A to start.

“I’ve got on well with everyone but spent the most time with Brandon Soppy and Destiny Udogie; they’re great lads. Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra have really impressed me in training; they’re class acts and top professionals. I’m delighted to play alongside them.

“As for my qualities, I’m solid at the back. I want to get stuck in when I play. However there’s so much I need to improve at. I want to work hard every day in training, making the most of my great team-mates.

“My dream is to represent Ireland’s senior team; it would be a huge honour. I hope I can make this dream come true.

“A message for Udinese fans: keep supporting us and spurring us on because we’ll give our all.”
