Arslan: "We must take this as a lesson and learn from it"

Tolgay Arslan says Udinese's Coppa Italia defeat to Monza is something they can and must learn from.

“We should take this as a lesson,” he commented after Udinese slipped out of the competition with a 3-2 loss.

“It's true that we didn't get much luck today but I we weren't really tight enough in defence. We're a team and we have to defend as one. I think we were poor in that respect today. We have to turn the page now as we have a very important game against Torino on Sunday. Starting tomorrow we have to give more than 100% and try to improve.”

The German also noted Monza's more cautious approach compared to the league game earlier in the season.

"We saw how they played differently against us today. They have more respect for us but that's down to us. We must knuckle down and work even harder. If we do that, I'm sure we'll have a great season.”

The game could have turned out very differently if Roberto Pereyra and Lazar Samardzic hadn't seen efforts come off the woodwork, but Arslan was pragmatic in his assessment.

“Hitting the woodwork is part of the game. You can never be sure of winning, even after ten really good performances. You can't win every match but you can play intelligently. We didn't play badly today but we have to learn from it and pick up as many points as possible before the break.”
