Sottil: “Late lapse a tough blow”

The coach speaks after Udinese were edged out by Juventus

A good performance was not enough on the night as Udinese left Allianz Stadium empty-handed following Danilo's late strike, but Andrea Sottil was keen to highlight the positives on display after his side matched Juventus for most of the game

“We played a good game tonight,” the coach said after the 1-0 defeat in Turin. “We went toe to toe with a side that are on a long winning streak. We were aggressive in attack and had our chances but needed to take them. You have to remember how strong Juve are defensively at the moment: they haven't conceded in eight matches.

“We held it together in the second half and had to deal with a few muscular problems. We did well to keep it together. We looked lively through the middle and out wide. That late lapse was a huge blow. We all needed to be more careful and focused. At this level, you must be totally focused on every single ball.

“I'm commenting on a defeat but I'm not unhappy with our performance. We're alive and well. We played good, aggressive football and our subs gave their all too.

“We need to be a bit more determined in front of goal, with our shots from outside the box and crosses. We did all that but we lacked precision. With the ability we have, we need to be hitting the target more.”
