Udinese register stunning win away to Inter

Udinese ended their long winless run away to Inter with a superb 2-1 success at San Siro, their first there since December 2017. Goals from Keinan Davis and Arthur Atta turned the game around after the home side had raced into an early lead.

 

The visitors started brightly, with Jakub Piotrowski forcing Yann Sommer into an early save before Vakoun Bayo went close after a determined press. Inter responded around the 15-minute mark with a series of rebounds from a corner, but Razvan Sava held firm. Soon afterwards, Lautaro Martinez helped set up Denzel Dumfries, who finished at the back post to put Inter ahead.

 

Udinese reacted immediately. Atta and Davis combined well, only for the Frenchman’s shot to be denied by the angle. The equaliser arrived on the half-hour when Davis calmly converted from the spot after a handball by Dumfries. Just ten minutes later, Atta curled a stunning effort into the far corner from the edge of the box to give Udinese the lead.

 

Inter pushed hard after the interval, with Marcus Thuram heading over and Hakan Calhanoglu firing wide from distance. Udinese responded through Davis, who carried the ball powerfully upfield and struck just past the post.

As the hosts increased the pressure in the final stages, Udinese continued to pose a threat on the counter. Jurgen Ekkelenkamp went close with a strike that flew off target, while the defence resisted wave after wave of Inter attacks. In the closing moments, two headers were denied, one by Rui Modesto on the line and another by a fine stop from Sava.

 

Kosta Runjaic’s side held out through six minutes of added time to secure their first away win of the season at the first time of asking, lifting them to four points from their opening two matches.
