Daniele Padelli spoke about a whole range of topics when he was hosted on this week's edition of Udinese Tonight – from Sunday's draw with Bologna to switching formations, Beto's recent impact and his own influence in the dressing room.

On Sunday's 1-1 draw with Bologna

“It was a game of two halves. We didn't play well in the first half and probably should have been behind at the break. We regrouped at half time and came out much better in the second half – that shows we've got character.

“It wasn't that anything special happened during the interval but when a player knows he can do better he fires up the others. Those 15 minutes during the break are crucial because you have time to reflect and recharge so that you're ready to go back out there for the remaining 45 minutes.”

On Udinese's switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation

“Tactically I'm not sure if we're ready yet but we've certainly got the players to play that formation – we have lots of great players. You can play many different ways and we need to find what suits us best. I think we need to settle in a bit and play to our strengths.

“I think it's too early to talk about a change. There are quite a few new players in the squad and some of them need a bit of time to get used to being regular starters in Serie A because it's different. We must be patient and believe in each other. Two of our goals have come from substitutes, which shows how decisive they can be.”

On Roberto Pereyra's red card

“It's perhaps not something you expect from an experienced player like him but football is not an exact science and these things can happen.”

On Beto's controversial equaliser against Bologna

“Speaking as a goalkeeper, I think the ref should have blown for a foul. The keeper can't jump properly without using his knee. And if you can't jump, you can't save.

“Beto is a well-rounded striker and I like his character – he never gives up. He has lots of good attributes and he works hard to improve them. I think he'll have a big role to play in the future of this team.”

On his own role in the dressing room

“I've been in the game for a long time and been in lots of different dressing rooms. When you get to a certain age, you do everything you can for the good of the team – on and off the pitch. Some players need a bit more encouragement and some need nudging in different ways and that's where I come in.”

On Marco Silvestri

“He's a fantastic keeper. Udinese made a superb signing there. He's a smashing lad who works really hard and he's come to our rescue on several occasions already.”
