Udinese have strengthened their defence and recruited Filip Benkovic. The Croat has signed a contract until 30 June 2025 with the option of a one-year extension. Benkovic is set to be an important figure in Udinese’s defence; his 6ft 5 physique means that he could contribute greatly both in defence and attack.

Benkovic was born in 1997 and came through the Dinamo Zagreb academy. He then went on to make his debut for the club in the 2015/16 season. He quickly became a regular in the team, featuring 13 times in the league as Dinamo won the league while also featuring three times in the Champions League.

Benkovic’s performances soon attracted the attention of clubs around Europe and in the summer of 2018 he moved to Leicester City in the Premier League. He then went on loan to have loan spells at Celtic, Bristol City, Cardiff City and OH Leuven, while picking up a solitary cap for the Croatian national team in the process. He was then released by Leicester and joins Udinese on a free transfer.

Welcome, Filip!
