Udinese forward Ilija Nestorovski was a guest on Udinese Tonight on Monday. Read on to find out what he had to say:

“It hasn’t been the end of the season that I expected and that the team wanted. We really wanted to give the fans something to cheer about and finish in the top half of the table. It’s been a poor end to the campaign because besides not winning recent games, we’ve lost them in difficult circumstances. I’m very disappointed and that goes for all my team-mates as well.

“We wanted to win some of our home games and we’re disappointed at not achieving our targets.

“I’m doing well. Three weeks have now passed since the operation. My recovery and physio work are going well. I’m working for four or five hours per day at the moment. I’m also doing well mentally because I’m strong-minded. I know I’ll come back mentally stronger, but I’m disappointed at not being able to play at the Euros. That’s life. It was fate.

“We’ve been unlucky this year in terms of injuries. Almost all my team-mates have picked up injuries by themselves, while mine came from a tackle in training, which is why I’m quite angry about it. Training injuries do make you angrier.

“I’m not thinking about how long it’ll take me to get back. I’m just focused on the present and am taking it one day at a time. It was a bad injury and I don’t want to set time frames on my return. I want to work hard and I hope to get back out on the pitch as soon as possible.

“We’ll need to take the positives from this season into next year and improve on the negatives. I think we have to change our mentality. We must prepare in training to win every game. That’s the only way we can become a successful team.

“I’ll spend the summer in Udine, but I do think I’ll go to Macedonia on 7 June. I want to follow the national team in the Euros and get behind my team-mates. I’ll take part in the Euros as a supporter.”
