An event organised by the Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium at Dacia Arena saw them present the new Excellence and Sustainability Model right from the home of Udinese Calcio, one of the most sustainable grounds in the world. The event was organised for member companies with the aim of promoting and raising awareness of key challenges within the sector, from the circular economy, to protecting the environment, to food education.

On Monday 13 February, Dacia Arena in Udine hosted the event where the Excellence and Sustainability Model was put forward. Here, it was not only future plans that were on the agenda but a review of the tangible results that have been achieved through circular economy actions taken to date. The meeting commenced with an intervention from the Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium, which was followed by a contribution on sustainable transition scenarios for the agri-food chain by Vitaliano Fiorillo, Director of SDA Bocconi’s AGRI Lab. In attendance were directors and sustainability, production and marketing officers from the 31 companies in the consortium. Case studies of major European companies that have taken action and devised plans for sustainability initiatives, like BMW and Hera, could be analysed through the convention. The focus of the work was the presentation of the model, Real Value: Prosciutto di San Daniele’s New Excellence and Sustainability Model, curated by Lundquist.

Dacia Arena offered the most appropriate venue for the event given that Udinese Calcio have been named Italy’s number one club for sustainability and fourth in the world according to the ESG ranking on account of the concrete actions that have been taken, such as the use of renewable or offsettable energy sources, generating significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions each year. During the conference, Managing Director of Udinese Calcio Franco Collavino presented the important actions that have been taken at the Friulian stadium to protect the environment.

Director of the Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium Mario Emilio Cichetti
emphasised the significance of the convention. “The consortium has organised an event to put forward a new model for sustainability in the sector, proposing projects that aim to preserve the environment and community, such as water, air and product protection, the use of sustainable energy and promoting work ethic. These themes fit perfectly with the sustainable initiatives pursued by Udinese Calcio and Dacia Arena, further strengthening the harmony between Prosciutto di San Daniele and the Friulian club, who are also united in their drive to enhance and protect our region.”

The event also offered an opportunity for the Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium to renew their partnership with Udinese Calcio. For the fourth year in a row, they have reconfirmed their sleeve sponsorship deal with the football club, which will see the Prosciutto di San Daniele DOP logo appear on the player’s sleeves for the 2023/24 season, in addition to various marketing and communication opportunities.

Director of the consortium Mario Emilio Cichetti
underlined the importance of the relationship. “We are pleased to renew this partnership between the Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium and Udinese Calcio, who share the same values, objectives and outlook. The aim of this collaboration between two brands that epitomise Friuli-Venezia Giulia is to strengthen their link to the region and act as spearheads for its advancement. The initiatives that have been organised in previous seasons have made it possible for us to share our product with the world of football and hospitality through Serie A clubs.”

General Manager of Udinese Calcio Franco Collavino
was similarly positive about the collaboration. “The Prosciutto di San Daniele consortium and Udinese are two stars of our region. Our partnership rests therefore on shared foundations which we regard as fundamental, like our commitment to sustainability. It is in our DNA to raise awareness among our partners about the need to protect the environment, so we are very pleased to share one of our main missions. We are proud of the event that the consortium organised at Dacia Arena, reaffirming itself as a leading example of sustainability through the use of sustainable energy and new initiatives currently being prepared for stadium lighting and the installation of solar panels. With these positive values at its heart, there could be no better opportunity to announce the renewal of our partnership until 30 June 2024.”
