The special guest on Udinese Tonight was Lazar Samardzic, who starred and scored for his side as they overcame Empoli at the weekend.

He was interviewed by Giorgia Bortolossi and this is some of what he had to say:

“Ever since I came to the club the affection the fans have for me has been palpable. I’d like to thank them for their support; it’s really special. I feel great here. This is the first season in which I’ve been playing where there have been fans in the stadiums, and that’s what football is all about. It was so amazing to experience that goal I scored in front of supporters at Dacia Arena.

“My childhood idol was Lionel Messi, while right now I look up to Kevin De Bruyne because he plays in the same position as I do. I feel at home playing as a playmaker or in the number 10 role behind the main striker, but the most important thing for me is being able to play.

“I’m delighted to have scored against Empoli. I’m always working on this technique. I prefer to be positioned on the right of midfield, because that way I can cut in and score goals like the one I scored last Saturday.

“I work hard every day but there’s stiff competition in my position at Udinese. It wasn’t easy to win a place in the team straight away.

“I started playing football at a young age; my dad passed on his passion for football to me. He used to play in the German third division and always took me with him to watch games.

“My aim is to play more and contribute to the team. We’ve not got specific objectives as a team; we take things game by game.

“I don't listen to those who think I'm all set in my career; I just focus on working hard and improving every day."
