Sandi Lovric says Udinese are determined to beat Napoli regardless of what it means for the Azzurri's title charge.

The league leaders could be crowned champions without playing on Wednesday, depending on results elsewhere, or with a victory at Dacia Arena in any case, but our Slovene midfielder is adamant it won't change Udinese's perspective either way.

Speaking on Udinese TV's Udinese Tonight show on Monday evening, he began: “We all know how things stand and we have just one thing in mind: we want to win,” It doesn't matter if Lazio lose or win beforehand. We want to give everything we've got to win in front of our fans.”

The midfielder then looked back to Friday's defeat against Lecce.

“It's not easy to explain why we have such inconsistent performances. We didn't play well against Lazio, we know it and we're sorry. Now we have options: we can carry on thinking about that game and let our morale drop even lower or we can pick ourselves up, learn from the mistakes and work hard to face Napoli. It's not just the coach who's angry – we are as much as anyone. We know we could and should have performed better.

“I thought I'd scored with that overhead kick but [Wladimiro] Falcone pulled out a great save. It would have been an amazing goal and it probably would have changed the match for us. It's a shame.”

Lovric has impressed in his maiden Serie A campaign, with 24 appearances, four goals and four assists to date.

"It's been a good season so far. There are six games to go and I want to improve those numbers further. I want to help the team, whether it's with a goal, an assist or a sliding tackle. I'm happy but I don't want to rest on my laurels. I want to do more.

“Playing in Serie A makes you realise how important the little details are: one small mistake and you concede a goal. By analysing those little things, you become more focused and improve game after game. My next goal is to take on more responsibility in and around the box – to be more of a threat and help the team win points.”

The 25-year-old made it our clear what the team's goal of for the remainder of the season.

“When we speak among ourselves, we're all aware of of how important the last six games are for us to achieve our target of finishing eighth. We know we're capable of doing that.”

Lovric ended by answering some personal questions.

“When I was young, my idol was [Zinedine] Zidane], then when I grew up it was [Luka] Modric. I love the way he plays the game. Both of them made history with Real Madrid.

“My favourite goal is definitely my first one against Roma. It was a great goal.

“Being a dad is an amazing feeling. Seeing that little miracle is heart-warming. She's a good girl and she lets me sleep!”
