Jean Victor Makengo was the latest guest on Udinese Tonight on Monday night to discuss his midfield role at the start of the new campaign.

“There’s no better medicine than winning.

“We’d struggled to control opposition attacks against Salernitana, but our pressing was much better against Monza, just as the coach asked. It was time to improve and that’s just what we did. I was pleased with my performance and the coach congratulated me at the end of the game. I speak to him a lot and we have a great relationship.

“From a tactical standpoint, I like playing on the right of a midfield three because I can cut inside on my more natural left foot. Having said that, I prefer playing on the other side for Udinese because I’m closer to [Destiny] Udogie. We have a special connection and we’re always together off the pitch as well. Despite his transfer to Tottenham, he’s staying calm. He knows where he wants to get to and will keep working hard to achieve his targets.

“On a personal level, I’m looking to score more goals. When I’m dribbling with the ball at my feet, I have to learn to get shots away and I’ll try to do that starting in our next game and for the rest of the season.

“It’s always fantastic for young players to come up against top sides. We’re facing Fiorentina on Wednesday and Roma on Sunday and we’ll be at home on both occasions, so we’ll have our fans right behind us and that makes a big difference. We’ll do all we can to claim the points.

“As a personal target, I want to become more of a leader and show I’m a key player in this team.

“I always think about the France national team and hope to be able to wear that jersey again one day.”
