Sergio Marcon, Udinese's goalkeeping coach since 2010, was interviewed on Udinese Tonight. Here’s some of what he had to say:

“It’s been a long break. Our winter friendlies helped us get up to speed, but we’ll only get a proper hit of adrenaline when we’re back playing competitive games. The atmosphere in the dressing room is positive and calm. We’re happy with how we did in the friendlies and we’re training well.

“As for Marco Silvestri’s best saves of 2022, I’d say that while the stop he pulled off against Fiorentina was wonderful his double save against Genoa was the perfect example of what we work on – reacting quicky to the first effort before springing back to deny the second. He’s a fantastic professional with an incredible mentality. He never lets mistakes get to him.

“Football has changed in recent years and there’s more focus on playing it out from the back. We’re working on this with our keepers. This wasn’t part of Marco’s game but he’s embraced it. You’ve got to know when to be clever and play it short or just boot it long.

“As for upcoming keepers at the club, I’d say that Francesco Di Bartolo and Joel Malusa are really promising. They’re different kinds of players but they’re both highly skilled. Our first team players are good at showing them the ropes and offering them advice. They’ve got what it takes to go far.”
