Pierpaolo Marino spoke on Udinese Tonight on TV12 about the team’s form and prospects for the remainder of the season.

“It’s clear that the team showed its true potential in the opening few games, but it’s difficult to keep that up throughout an entire league campaign at the same level. It’s also true that this run at the moment is going on for a bit too long.

“I still don’t know how to explain what happened against Bologna. I never would’ve expected to lose in that way and it was a harsh wake-up call. I’ve been involved in so many games as a sporting director, over 1,000 in fact, and I didn’t feel that that could happen. In the week, the players trained with great commitment and intensity. The start of the match was proof of that. The approach was really positive.

“When results aren’t coming your way, it can be down to getting the basics the right at that time. We have a united and serious dressing room here with three or four charismatic leaders. I don’t think there were any issues connected to commitment in that game and that’s never been the case to tell the truth.

“The fact that our captain came over to me and [Andrea] Sottil at the end of the contest and asked for a training camp is such an important one. It’s not a punishment imposed by the club. The players want to be together to understand how to come through this situation.”
