Udinese shotstopper Daniele Padelli made some superb saves as he claimed a clean sheet on the final day of the season in Salerno.

“There was no doubt for me that we’d adopt a serious approach. You go out on to the pitch for the crest on your chest, not for what’s written on the back. We needed to show that Udinese are a serious team. From us on the pitch to the kit men and the fans who’ve followed us as far as Salerno, I’m so pleased because we’ve given ourselves something to cheer about and we’ve shown we showcase strong values, just like everyone who wears this jersey.”

In terms of an assessment of the season, the goalkeepers was keen to focus on the stats. “The numbers don’t lie. I’m very mathematical in this regard. We beat Cagliari 4-0 away, we’ve won 4-0 here in Salerno, we’ve dominated so many games. We’ve also played well in other matches without getting what we deserved.”

It was a season that could’ve seemed difficult in the early stages with the influx of young players, some of whom were playing regular top-flight football in Serie A for the first time.

“The lads have shown their commitment by using their heads, leading a healthy life on and off the pitch, while the older players have led by example. We’ve created something fantastic here.

“I always say what I think and have done so since I arrived here. I’m aware of what my role is. It’s hard for me to play with Marco [Silvestri] here because he’s had an extraordinary season and deserves all the credit in the world.

“I’ve been fully committed on and off the pitch. I’ve brought my experience, which is a mix of relegations and success. The great thing about this squad is that we’re all important and we’ve all given that something extra.

“Ilija Nestorovski is an example of that. He’s not played much, but he’s always trained hard and he grabbed a goal today.

“We’ve finished the season strongly, which is what we wanted to do, showing that Udinese are a good and serious side. I’ve heard and read many things this week that I didn’t like, such as the idea that we’d come here to lose. We play with honour in this league and we honour the work that we do. I’d like to invite others to do the same.”
