Udinese’s Argentine star Roberto Pereyra was interviewed by the club’s TV channel last night and discussed a wide variety of topics:

“It felt amazing to wake up on Monday morning after the game the day before. We’re delighted with what we achieved.

“The reason why this team is great is because we put in a lot of effort every day in training. We take things day by day and go out onto the training pitch with the aim of giving our all. The coach’s message is that doing so in training means that we’ll also be firing on all cylinders in matches.”

“My thoughts go out to Adam Masina. Prior to his serious injury he was on great form. I’m gutted that he can’t be playing at the moment as his willpower and drive rubs off on other players. We’ll miss him while he’s out.

“In terms of season goals, it would be nice to be able to secure safety before the break for the World Cup. In order to do this we must keep up what we’ve done so far, taking each game as it comes, and avoiding looking too far ahead. Both the team and the club’s first aim is to break the 40-point barrier. Once achieved we can raise the bar in terms of our ambitions.

“Wearing the captain's armband is an honour which needs to be taken seriously. Team-mates perceive you differently – you’ve got to be available to everyone both on and off the pitch. I prefer to lead by example then giving massive speeches as this is what counts at the end of the day.

“I had a good time playing on the right wing in our last three games. When we needed someone to cover that position I put myself forward. I’m just focused on improving my performances in that role. It’s gone well so far, let’s see how the coach wants us to approach the Sassuolo game.

“On a personal level, things couldn’t be going better. My partner is expecting our third child.

“I would like to thank the city of Udine because its people’s support for us never wanes. They drive us on, improving us a team. We know that fans go to Dacia Arena to have a good time and we give our all so that they can go home with smiles on their faces.”
