Andrea Sottil took stock of his maiden Serie A campaign when he was hosted on the Udinese Tonight show on Monday evening.

“We have two games left and we hope to finish as best we can,” the boss began. “It's my first season in Serie A so I must say a big thank you to the players – they're my first group in the top flight and I'll always remember them fondly. They've given me so much and been very receptive from day one. I've had some wonderful moments with great results as well as some harder times – but we've always come through them together. I think we've forged an excellent relationship on a human level. We have 46 points on the board and two matches to go. We've had an excellent season.

“I'm working with top-quality players with a lot of experience so in some ways it's easier working with Serie A players. I noticed straight away that it's a totally different level but I also realised that I have to remain myself, like I was in Serie C: credible. And I think I've done that.

“Could we have done better this season? Definitely. You can always do better. Obviously when you get off tone of the best starts Udinese have ever had people expect you to continue racking up points at the same rate. We all wanted that but you always get ups and downs in football.

“When I first joined, the owners and sporting director asked me to build a team with a clear identity and a winning mentality that sets out to win every game. I believe I've succeeded in that sense, besides improving numerous players. I feel satisfied with the work I've done with these players.

“It hasn't all been perfect and there were some games we could have played better, like Torino and Bologna, but we've also beaten all the teams playing in European finals. I think ultimately every team ends the season with the points they deserve.”
