Andrea Sottil says his team have set their minds firmly on finishing the season strong and as high up the table as possible.
With four matches left to play, Udinese are one of half a dozen sides bunched up within two points of each other, between eighth and 13th place. Udinese and Fiorentina, who start the weekend level on 46 points, go head to head on Sunday, with the winner stealing a march in the race for eighth place.
“We want to do well in our last four games and get as many points as possible because we have a clear goal in mind,” Sottil said on the eve of the game.
“We have the right level of focus, enthusiasm and calm. We know how hard it's going to be but we've prepared well for it and are coming off a good home win. My players look determined to go to Florence and produce a good performance.
With the game sandwiched between Fiorentina's two-legged Europa Conference League semi-final, many are expecting Vincenzo Italian to fielding a weakened team – a notion Sottil was quick to dismiss.
"Fiorentina have a big squad – it's basically two teams – and they can rotate in some great players who didn't play in the Europa League. When you face a side playing in Europe you know they have lots of options and if anyone chosen by Fiorentina's management team is going to be good. They're well drilled and have players with lots of different attributes.
“We must adopt the same approach we had against Napoli, against Cremonese and Sampdoria, I ask the lads first of all for a good performance, mentally, tactically and technically, but it all starts with our approach:
We have four difficult games ahead – after Fiorentina, it's Lazio, Salernitana and Juventus. Salernitana are in fine form too and picking up lots of points. It will depend on us and how focused we are because we know there are no easy games in Serie A. We have a duty to finish as high as we can because anything can happen. Our job is to get as many points as possible and try to find our El Dorado in the upper echelons of the table.”
