Andrea Sottil says his team's focus and fitness have been restored to their previous high levels after a positive week at the training ground in the lead-up to Sunday's match against Torino.

"This week we've been able to work without any distractions due to the transfer window,” the coach told Udinese TV on Saturday. “We've worked very hard and trained with intensity and quality.

“My players are in good physical shape. I've seen real motivation in their eyes, a sense of belonging and desire to produce a big performance. We are missing a few players but I've never used that as an excuse – you just have to accept it. The best thing is everyone seems focused on the present and determined to play well against Torino.

“Tactical continuity is important. We've had some excellent performances recently and all the lads are in a good place. Everyone feels they're involved – that's one of the pillars of my methods. Those who start and those who come on will be up to the task.”

On deadline-day signing Florian Thauvin: “He seems highly motivated. He hasn't come to Udine for an easy ride. He gave me an excellent first impression. He oozes enthusiasm and that's important. He has a lot of experience. He's come in and knuckled down straight away so he'll be in the squad.

“He's versatile and can play in the hole or as a second striker, alongside Beto or [Isaac] Success. It also depends on who's playing in midfield.”

Beto remains an Udinese player despite a big bid from Everton.

“It's certainly good news for us. It's not my remit but I know the owners and I'm delighted to be able to work with this squad and this management. I know they pay attention to everything."

Sottil also offered his views on Sunday's opponents Torino, the club where he made his professional debut.

“Torino are very well coached by Ivan Juric. They have their way of playing. They take a pragmatic approach and look to play the ball forward quickly with quality players. We know all about Torino and we've prepared well. We have the strength and the quality to cause problems for them.

"I played lots of games in that stadium and I have fond memories. Torino are part of my past but when you take to the pitch you only want to win with your team.

“We want to win because winning is important. That's why we play and it has to be our mentality, regardless of the league table. That's our philosophy.”
