Walace chatted about Udinese's form, his personal development at the club and life in Udine when he was hosted on Udinese TV's Monday night show Udinese Tonight.

He began by reflecting on Saturday's draw with Atalanta.

“We were playing at a really tough ground against a side that play with incredible intensity. I think it's a good draw, an excellent result. Drawing at home to Spezia was not so good, however. We can't concede goals like that, although it happens in football.

“The boss is right. We mustn't look backwards. When the match finishes, we must immediately look ahead to the next one.

“Our goal is to get as many points as possible, though we know it's tough in Serie A. It's hard to find an explanation for our form but every team goes through ups and downs. We know we could have been higher up the table and that's why we want to win."

The Brazilian has been a model of consistency this term, winning the most balls of any player in Serie A while starting every game for Udinese – racking up the third most minutes of all outfield players in the Italian top flight.

“I try to help my team-mates and the team as a whole by doing what the boss asks and I'm pleased with the numbers because they're proof of my work. I want to play all the time and I give everything I can in training to show the boss how much it means to me.”

Despite his ball recovery stats, Walace commits very few fouls. He explains: “Precisely because I want to play all the time, I don't want to be picking up yellow cards so I always go for the ball.”

The 27-year-old then spoke about how much he has improved personally since joining the club from Hannover in 2019.

“I've increased the intensity of my game so much over the last four years. I feel like one of the leaders of this team.

“I'm grateful to all the coaches I've had here. [Andrea] Sottil is an excellent coach. At the start of the season he showed me what he wanted from me, like playing with two touches, playing the ball forward and marking tightly. I thank him for that because it's improved my game loads.

“We hold a higher line with Sottil and we're more aggressive. In previous years we sat a bit deeper. Maybe that's why I've been able to have more shots this season.”

Walace also commented on his home life in Friuli.

"Being a dad is such a joy but I don't know how my wife manages with five males in the house! I'm very happy in Udine. Everyone has been so welcoming. I have some unforgettable memories from this city, like getting married at Pasian di Prato two years ago."

Walace ended the programme with a promise for the fans: “I'll never stop scrapping on the pitch and we'll never stop trying to win.”
