Jean-Viktor Makengo spoke to Udinese TV about the home game against Roma, which ended in disappointment after the visitors snatched a late equaliser, before looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to Napoli.

“It was a splendid display against Roma in terms of our play, attitude and desire. The goal at the end hurts, but we’re now focused on the next game. We want to go and Naples to pick up some points.

“I thought my shot was going on, but it hit the bar and the goalkeeper’s head in the end. We’ll just have to keep doing well.

“The biggest thing that Gabriele Cioffi has got across to us is the mental side and that changes everything. He pushes us forward and transmits his desire to win, to get fired up and to do everything for one another. This is a job that the boss does throughout the week and not just on Sundays. It’s making a big difference.

“In my opinion, the next step forward in terms of quality is being able to put games to bed earlier, such as going 2-0 up [against Roma].

“We’re preparing well and are playing games to pick up points. We’re getting ready to turn in a top performance against Napoli and get a result.

“I’ve improved so much during my two years in Udine, particularly in terms of my personality. I take responsibility and I play in the way that I know.

“I’m so happy in Udine. It’s a beautiful city. The fans are really kind and they ask me for photos when they see me around the city.”
